#Chemnitz: The Media Falls Into The Neo-Nazis' Trap Amid Fascist Riots

The scenes in Chemnitz have rightly horrified not just activists and antifascists in Germany, but people around the world appalled at the appearance of right-wing hooligans flooding the streets of Germany, making the Hitler salute and using the death of an individual to stoke an openly fascist world outlook. However, while few doubt the seriousness of the situation, press coverage has been subpar in Germany and simply abominable in the English-speaking world. Since the beginning of the "refugee crisis" and Chancellor Angela Merkel's (CDU) decision to adopt a public face ( though hardly a policy ) of welcoming migrants, the media has promoted the concept that Germans "left behind" by economic and social change or otherwise upset with the move have been on one end of a "sharp divide" and a "backlash." While it is undeniable that many in Germany have been detrimentally impacted by neoliberal economic policies , the media, especially in t...

#NoG20: High-Tech Repression And "Left Extremist Database" In Europe

A process of ongoing high-level cooperation between European governments following the G20 in Hamburg this time last year has led to the creation of a "black bloc task force," as well as what appears to be a Europe-wide digital database of so-called "left wing extremists" based on a dubious and toxic ideological framework, according to a series of articles, activist commentary, and government documents. Over the past few months, a huge number of activists from Switzerland, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Austria, France and Germany have been arrested by police in conjunction with the G20 protests. The raids in Italy, Spain, France and Switzerland were conducted by a "black bloc task force," according to DW. The black bloc task force, DW says, has been "combing through terabytes of police footage, CCTV recordings, and private videos with the help of facial recognition software and geolocation data." It has been disclosed al...

Still Loving Riot Tourists! NoG20! United We Stand!

Translated from  the original at Barrikade.de The odious spectacle of the powerful known as the G20 summit in Hamburg has been over for a year - but is it over? Not really, and not for everyone. Six of the more than 50 people arrested following the summit are still imprisoned in Billwerder Prison, on the eastern edge of Hamburg. Four people are still on trial almost daily until the end of July. New proceedings on the G20 are opened almost every week. More than 50 defendants have already been sentenced to hefty prison terms, suspended sentences or fines. Many of the over 400 people temporarily arrested and detained at the beginning of July are still waiting to be tried. Apartments, houses, libraries and projects have been and are still being searched, hundreds of "wanted" photographs are still being published a veritable manhunt organized by the prosecution and the press continues. This has also been happening abroad since April. Not only in Switzerland, Denmark, Gr...

Once Again Sliding Into Fascism: Germany, 50 Years After 1968

Since the G20 in July of last year, the German state has moved to the right at an ever-more rapid and frightening pace. From the massive police repression , increased surveillance , attacks on left platforms and locations , and imprisonment of leftist protestors , the actions of the Grand Coalition (GroKo) government (comprised of the Orban-aligned CDU/CSU and Social Democratic SPD) have evoked many eerie memories of the first Grand Coalition , a government in office during the events of 1967-68 which enacted various oppressive measures, leading to the creation of the Extra-Parliamentary left opposing the two parties comprising 95 percent of the Bundestag.  The 1966 grand coalition was formed amid an environment of left-wing protest and rebellion in West Germany and the world. Students were gassed and even shot protesting right-wing Arab leaders allied to the German government , especially the Shah of Iran, while the tabloid media (mostly the Springer Press) heaped prai...

Did Corporate Spies Surveil #NoG20 Protests? (EXCLUSIVE)

(Nach unten scrollen fur Deutsch) The ultra-secretive Inkerman Group , recently in the hot seat for placing infiltrators in BDS and ecological groups , was also monitoring last year’s protests against the G20 in Hamburg, according to information compiled from social media. On July 10 of last year,  two   tweets about the summit protests were posted on Inkerman Insight’s official English-language Twitter page.     The tweets include descriptions of direct actions and state responses, as well as links to news articles from state news agencies TASS and Radio Free Europe. Inkerman’s clients are not disclosed on their website, however they have tweeted about their operations in the past. The group is well-known to infiltrate anarchist and environmentalist groups on behalf of companies including Caterpillar and Scottish Coal, and operates internationally.  The use of private security in tracking the protests against the G20 follo...
